Two Days Later

“Have a seat, Miss Evans. Can I get you something to drink?” The detective pulled a chair out for her and Luna thought it was funny how he was acting like their meeting was a social call. She was sure it was a tactic, one intended to relax her and get her to feel comfortable opening up. But nothing about being in the police station, or the memories that had been coming back to her, made her comfortable. It was all such a departure from the quiet life she’d finally carved for herself and it seemed to have taken over her life. The one thing that did make her comfortable that day was knowing that Wyatt was waiting for her out in the waiting room. He’d only just gotten back from his visit with his mother, and finally told her about his father’s passing away. She was worried about his state of mind while meanwhile he insisted on being there for her. That was a new part of her life that she would be happy to hold on to.

“I’m fine, Detective, thank you. I’m sure you have better things to do with your Saturday afternoon, so I’d just like to get this over with quickly, if possible.”

Detective Carey took his seat on the other side of the table and set a small tape recorder in between them. Then he opened the file in front of him and picked up his ink pen. “Saturday, Monday...it’s all the same to me,” he said with a smile. “Crime never stops.” He was a lot more affable than he had been that first day. “I appreciate you calling me. Mr. Logan has given us access to the security tapes but we’re still in the process of reviewing those so I’m afraid I don’t have any new information for you.”

Luna trusted Ransom, but part of her still worried they’d be able to see them having sex on those tapes. She knew that should be the least of her worries, but she could barely stand the idea of Ransom’s seeing her body in full sunlight...the idea of its being on display for strangers mortified her. She smiled in hopes that the detective couldn’t read the anxiety in her eyes and said, “I don’t have a lot of new information for you either, unfortunately. But I did have one new memory that I felt like I had to share with you.” Her mother was the real reason she was there. She had urged her to call the detective, and she was even suggesting to her that maybe she see a hypnotist in order to get her memories back. She was scheduled to return to work that Monday and her parents worried about her being safe once she went back to her normal routine. Luna had a feeling that Detective Carey was the kind of guy who only saw things in black and white...but she told her mother she’d talk to him about it, so there she was.
